DONATION - FIRE EXTINGUISHING BALLS

I'm happy to report that we've identified five matches for ADVANCE MAKKO's donation of 50 Fire Extinguishing Balls. These automatic fire extinguishers also function as fire alarms. We will be distributing them to the JAMIYAH CHILDREN'S HOME in Eunos, GEYLANG EAST HOME FOR THE AGED, PERTAPIS SENIOR CITIZEN HOME in Toa Payoh, SUN-DAC CENTRES FOR THE DISABLED in Chai Chee and Choa Chu Kang, and the SINGAPORE CHILDREN'S SOCIETY CONVALESCENT HOME off Admirality Road.

Children's homes, Homes for the Aged and Centres for the Disabled were identified as recipients for the fire extinguishing balls as the residents of these places would be less likely to be able to use a traditional fire extinguisher in an emergency.

The donations will be delivered in the first half of August.

New Volunteers, Blogging and Grant Writing

I spent most of today publicizing the SUPERSEED blog.

THANK YOU to everyone who has replied to my emails, checked out the site, offered advice and a willingness to volunteer.

I'd also like to thank several people who have already been lending volunteer support to this initiative. MANAR HUSSAIN, a graduate of the INSEAD program in Singapore, taught me how to blog and lent support creating this site and registering the url. ERIC JONES is our logo designer. JACKIE CHAN (not the movie star) is researching contacts in the private sector. And WINONA "Nonie" DORSCHEL is going to help prepare several grant proposals.

A few words about Nonie's background. She has ten years experience in international development and has worked for multilateral and non-governmental groups including the World Bank, UNPD, UNHCR, CARE, and Pact. She's currently working on a publication called "NGO Basics" for Chinese grassroots organizations.

Our First Donation!

ADVANCE MAKKO Pte Ltd has become the first company to pledge a donation of goods to SUPERSEED!

They're donating 50 new "Fire Extinguishing Balls". These fire extinguishers activate automatically when they come in contact with fire.

We'll be placing them in Homes for the Aged, Children's Homes and Handicapped Centres - places where the residents are less likely in an emergency to be able to use a traditional fire extinguisher. The Fire Extinguishing Balls are already in use in Thailand. They've recently cleared the final regulatory hurdle in Singapore and will hit the market soon. The total retail value of the donation is approximately S$6250.
