Singapore's Ministry of Manpower is interested in donating 127 computers and 100 monitors plus other computer accessories like keyboards and mice. The computers have been reformatted, so they do not have any software or operating systems. However I'm speaking with Microsoft to see if they can donate the necessary software. Meanwhile, a member of the SiTF (Singapore infocomm Technology Federation) has suggested installing open source operating systems.
When SUPERSEED is fully operational, we would accept the Ministry of Manpower's donation, warehouse it, identify matches with grassroots welfare organisations and then arrange for delivery. However since we don't have a place to store donations yet, we need to identify recipients in advance.
These particular computers are largely old-generation Compaqs, Gateways and Acers.
I also spoke this week with an officer at the iDA (Infocomm Development Authority) who has suggested an organisation here in Singapore that may be able to put these computers to good use.
It's great news that the word is spreading and agencies are keen to donate.
